The Chef

The British Master Chef trained at the Birmingham College of Food, awarded NVQ Qualifications in Hospitality & Catering along with Caterer & Hotelkeeper Student Chef of the Year 1996 & 1997.

Mathew went on to gain a H.N.D. in Hotel, Catering & Institutional Management before opening his first Gastro Pub Restaurant at the age of 23 years old. Mathew gained National awards including Pub Restaurant Chef of the Year 2001 along with being a finalist 4 more times, Publican Business Newcomer of the Year finalist 2001, Caterer & Hotelkeeper Top 30 entrepreneur Acorn Winner of 2002 & The Roux Scholarship finalist 2001 & 2005.

In his continual professional development, the chef studied a BA Hons Degree in Hospitality Business Management along with working in New Product Development – N.P.D. This lead to winning British Culinary Federation Louis Cipolla Chef of the year award 2008 and being involved in TV, cookery DVDs, cookery books and many celebrity Chef Charity events including The HEFF Awards, Skills for Chefs, Taste Festivals, Good Food Shows, Restaurant live and the list goes on.

Professional Cookery competitions are Mathew’s passion, being voted No.1 National competition Chef of the year 2011 by Craft Guild of Chefs this added to a long list of accolades including Staffordshire Master chef of the Year 2011, Master Chefs of Great Britain 2008, M.A.R.C.H.E. Chef of the Year 2010, Culinary Olympics Bronze Medal, plus gold medal at the British Cookery Championships 5 years running! 

Mathew has enjoyed over 13 years of teaching part-time & full-time and is committed to educating people through his love & passion for food, along with his continual professional development as a qualified University lecturer, having just completed a Post Graduate in Education which supports his current job. Mathew is set to go on to study a M.A. at Birmingham University.

Mathew is a founder team member of the Best of British BBQ Team & joint owner of the brand which has been going for over 7 years. Enjoying success throughout the world including 1st place in the Live BBQ cook-off “I know Jack” event in Lynchburg the home of Jack Daniels where the world BBQ championships take place, The National BBQ Team Best of British are focused on being world champions!

The British Master Chef works with charities such as Cancer Research U.K. & Air Ambulance raising funds through his cooking. Mathew also supports local schools & initiatives such as judging for the national schools cookery competition “Future Chef”, He is Head co-ordinator for Junior Chefs Academy for the last 7 years training local children the basics of cookery along with being the National Education Liaison committee member of the British Culinary Federation, the role is to support junior chefs in the United Kingdom liaising with schools & awarding bodies.
